The UFC legend stood to pull in over €3m with a pre-match flutter that saw him predict a 3-1 victory for La Roja in Berlin. He fell narrowly short there, with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarbazal seeing Luis de la Fuente’s side to a 2-1 success.

THE GOSSIP
McGregor had covered himself, though, by backing Spain to emerge triumphant before the latest edition of the European Championships began. In the middle of June, he wagered €83,500 on Lamine Yamal and Co claiming a continental crown.

WHAT MCGREGOR SAID
The odds of that bet were boosted to 11/1, meaning that McGregor has landed himself another seven-figure sum. He posted on social media, alongside an image of his coupon: “Vamos Spain! Easy money on the Spaniards to win the Euros on my birthday. A nice mill for the Mac!”

WHAT NEXT?
McGregor also had a sizeable bet riding on Argentina at the 2024 Copa America, with another winner being enjoyed there as the Albiceleste – who saw Lionel Messi pick up an unfortunate injury – battling their way to a 1-0 victory over Colombia.
